Studio Somewhere Invites is an experiment in self-directed artist development.
Scotland based artists are invited to recommend leading practitioners from across the world to deliver a workshop or talk they feel would be influential for their own development or make a positive impact on their local artist community.

Whatever I am / let it be seen
Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin (Italy)
I am called to continue to be with divination as a practice of emergence, in many ways similar to the practice of dancing. Both have to do with allowing, with the subtlelty of listening, with a fetish for energy shifts, how things move and are moved literally. Both have to do with ancestral connection, with being in the presence of the reasons why I am here - with the suggestions that come from them and the subtlety of that language.
The workshop worked with materials emerging from the research on Whatever I am / Let it be seen; a new show in development by Giorgia Ohanesian Nardin. This included elements of movement, writing and looking into divinatory practices (tarot reading, pendulum consultations, connecting to ghosts)

Radical Anger

This online workshop explored transformational energies for transformative times. It asked: what makes anger radical? Can we work to change how we see our own anger?
Caritia offered an opportunity to teach and share valuable insights on this complex emotion. The workshop was for anyone who wanted to shift the paradigm and hear alternative and transformative perspectives on and about the emotion of anger and ways to embrace it for change, as well as (radical) empowerment.

Here and Now

One of the UK’s most celebrated performance artists returned to Glasgow to deliver a workshop engaged individual, duo/trio and group works involving private/public and social/cultural considerations, using the whole group of participants as a teaching/learning unit. The workshop focused on developing and activating concentration, intention, insight, innovation, flexibility, adaptability and being 'present', moment by moment. As well as ecology of natural environment, there's ecology of mind, body and spirit, interfused, three in one. Our challenge today is to live this integration. Already we're late. Time we have is not so vital as time we make. Time is now.

What’s Collective?

Toronto based performance company Public Recordings delivered their 3 day workshop exploring strategies in collective working within organising & creative practise.
Using the framework of a co-facilitated workshop, What’s Collective? stages an artistic exchange, through which collective approaches to art making can be shared, questioned, and renewed. The result is a gathering in which participants can more deeply consider their own artistic contexts, and develop new questions and ideas in response to the project’s title.

The Switching
jumatatu m. poe (USA)
Studio Somewhere is delighted to invite New York based choreographer jumatatu m. poe to Glasgow. They will be in residence connecting with local artists and cultural historians, exploring the concept of indigeneity in relation to Scottish land & Gaelic language culture.
This workshop explored their improvisation practice, The Switching, a strategy in immediate evolution. The practice deals with strategic essentialism – through the immediate design of creatures, or ways of being – and working with immediately identifying restrictions/limitations.
