The Mongrel; Development residency

Nayar will be developing a new performance, creating movement scores which ask if the dissonant rhythms of mixed ancestry can be soothed or tamed? This question will be embodied through violent cathartic releases; physical & vocal acts of radical self care that upturn & disrupt. Nayar will be inviting vocalist Ninni and kinetic sculptor Theodora Koumbouzis into the studio to draw on their practical and lived experience as they create a vocal score for the work.

Nayar is a performing artist from India based in Glasgow. Using dance, he traces queer diasporic histories to shed a light on colonial upsets and the violence that ebbs from these distortions. As these histories are tumultuous, his body of work contorts to capture them by spanning across intrinsic movement pieces, multimedia installations, and performance lectures. Nayar’s pieces create space - carving through crowds with animalistic ferocity and holding that space with delicate choreography - to retell, reflect, and reimagine.
