Teat(r)o Oficina - Power of Presence in the presence of Power
Fernanda Taddei
13 November 2026 | 10:30 - 12:00
Tramway (Studio) Free and unticketed
Fernanda will share some of the practice and history of Teat(r)o Oficina, one of the most important counter-colonial, radical theatre companies in the world, of which she is one of the directors.
Routes of Black Theatre in Brazil
Leda Maria Martins
13 November 2026 | 13:00 - 14:30
Tramway (T4) Free and unticketed
A rare conversation with Leda, who is the leading philosopher of Black Theatre in Brazil, exploring the specificities of its aesthetic, theoretical, and poetic intersections, and connection with African cultures, rituals, and philosophies.
Green thinking 🌱
Our Festival Manager Karl went to Theatre Green Book's Culture Shift Symposium at mac Birmingham with artists Aby Watson and Daemon Clelland. The day covered how to make performance environmentally sustainable at any scale, from touring and procurement to how we talk about it. We left with a very long list of things to rethink (our spreadsheets have never been greener) 💚
📍 Reporting from Studio Somewhere
As part of our Take A Breath programme, we joined artist and movement practitioner Simone Lore for a guided sauna experience for artists. It was an afternoon of sweating it out together under glorious blue-skies. ☀️ (A huge thank you to Glasgow Community Sauna for having us, and to everyone who came along and made space to reflect on any intentions for this coming autumn.)
We joined Tamm Reynolds for a brilliant workshop - Everything is F*cked and Your Art Isn’t Going To Fix It. We talked about the cost of making work from your own life and politics - what it takes out of you, what you expect it to do, and what you actually want from it. Hard conversations and big laughs, thank you Tamm!
We joined Selina Thompson and Toni-Dee Paul of Selina Thompson Ltd for An Artist’s Compass workshop! Artists spent the morning on Zoom reflecting on what sustains their practice, who they make work for and the structures that hold it, and each left with their own compass to bring them back to their “whys”. Thanks to Selina and Toni-Dee for such a generous, thoughtful session.
Next week Amy Clark and Noa Ferder move into Tramway Studio for their Graduate Residency with us and Tramway, developing That's It. The show involves a ballerina who cannot really dance, a naked woman who is not really naked, and a classical pianist who is actually an epic drummer. We can't wait to see what's behind the curtain.
Artist Elsewhere 🌍
Farah Saleh takes Balfour Reparations to Reykjavík Dance Festival on Thursday 12 November. Join them in 2046, as a member of the Reparations Committee, reflecting on a fictive apology letter issued by the UK government in 2026, promising reparations to the Palestinian people. What does accountability look like? What might justice mean? Part of our exchange with Reykjavík Dance Festival, through the British Council's Momentum follow-up fund.
Craig Manson brings Selkie: The Wet and Wild Show to Outburst Queer Arts Festival in Belfast, Friday 13 November. A real-life selkie, two women in wetsuits, and the chance to go onstage, feed him, and watch him dance. Craig made a splash(!) with this at our 2025 Festival and it's a joy to see it travel. Front rows, you will get wet 🦭
Kirstin Halliday is back from Body/Mind Festival in Warsaw, their half of Warsaw-Glasgow Express, our exchange with The Work Room and Nowy Teatr. They had a meaningful week there: new connections, big conversations, and plenty to bring home to Glasgow. Ania Nowak arrives in January for the other half of the exchange.
Now Kirstin is off to Birmingham for Fierce Jams Industry Day, where they're sharing an extract of Desert Kingsnake. They'll be joined by Aby Watson, so we'll report back on our Scottish artists at Fierce next time 🦎
From friends across the sector ⚡️
Cade & MacAskill and Spooner & Clarke premiere NOW NOT NOW at Tramway, 30-31 October. A warped morning routine where leaving the house on time becomes an epic struggle, as tasks loop, snag and unravel at different speeds on top of each other. We supported the show with residency space and joined their workshop, running our own breakfasts at the wrong tempo. Go 🌀
MUMS opens at Tramway's Community Canvas on Saturday 17 October. Artist Marie-Claire Lacey shows her own work alongside art made with a community of new mums who met through the project's workshops, all of it about maternal mental health and wellbeing 🎨
If you missed Tristan and Yseult at the Citizens, catch it at the Lyceum Edinburgh 20-24 October! Visceral, playful, and heartbreakingly beautiful, this internationally celebrated production blends myth, music, movement, and storytelling 💥
SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival) is back 19-24 October! They have an exciting lineup that showcases queer storytelling from communities in Scotland and beyond, including an exhibition of SQIFF over the years 🍿
No Apologies by Emma Frankland is back at the Traverse after a critically acclaimed run at the Fringe! It's a spectacular collision between theatre and grunge, fuelled by the experience of coming-of-age in the nineties 🤘
George Finlay Ramsay's Flesh, Wax & Glass: Three Holy Weeks in Calabria opens at David Dale Gallery on 20 November. Four years in the making, the 16mm film follows a family in southern Italy mourning a man who died a week after performing an Easter flagellant ritual for the 33rd time. The opening night has a screening and a performance from Coby Sey 🕯️
Plus, tickets are still on sale for two of last month’s recommendations: Ontroerend Goed's Thanks for Being Here at the Tron, 22 and 23 October, and THRICE from Al Seed Productions at Tramway on 16 and 17 October ⚡️
We'll be back soon with more from our artist support programme and news from across the sector. We hope that if you didn't make it to a sauna this month, you're still curled up somewhere warm.
