Self insert outside fan spiral (on ice) is a live action figure skating fan fiction / a totally real figure skating event made up of lots of pleasurable neurodivergent overwhelm.
Here are some facts about figure skating: there are no facts in figure skating only very strong opinions. A spiral is when you glide on one blade for a long time either forwards or backwards with the other foot raised. A fan spiral is a back outside edge spiral where the legs look like the edges of a fan if it was a really dangerous fan made from legs.
(on ice) takes place on an amplified piece of real fake ice and like any real figure skating event includes a six minute warm-up, Carmens, Boleros, Swan Lakes, Phantoms, lifts, quadruple Axels, alien mpreg, crystals, illusion mesh, bears, short programmes, medium programmes, long programmes, and several ice resurfacing breaks. The ice resurfacing machine is probably the best figure skater of all time. His name is Zamboni and he makes the ice with his teeth and his liquids and he’s sooooo sexy.

Artist Bio
Jo Hauge is a neurodivergent, trans live artist from Oslo based in Glasgow. They make performances that embrace overwhelm, clumsiness & poor impulse control, using stream-of-consciousness text, confusing soundscapes & a purposeful lack of clarity to create a sense of pleasurable overwhelm. In 2021 Hauge was awarded the Jerwood Arts Live Work Fund & spent a year developing their practice towards a sustainable, accessible & inherently neurodivergent practice. A key part of this is working collaboratively & slowly, as well as giving the artistic content the space to be as neurodivergent & original as it can be, slowly working out its own neurodivergent logics rather than relying on established ways of making meaning. Jo’s work incorporates body-based practices inspired by a strong history of live art practice from the UK, Norway and further afield.
Self Insert Outside Fan Spiral (On Ice) is created for & by queer, trans, & neurodivergent people. While the work invites engagement from all, it centers the perspectives & experiences of these communities. The performance emphasises playfulness and pleasure as much-needed counterpoints to the historical misrepresentation & condescension often directed at disabled & trans people. They have an MA in Performance from Queen Mary University of London. johauge.com
