Hello from Take Me Somewhere! ☀️

We're popping into your inbox since you're on our artist opportunities database to bring you news and opportunities around the sector.

📍 In Studio Somewhere

We welcomed Peilin Shi into our artist space to develop a work that reconfigures the Southern Chinese Hakka ritual Bridal Wailing 哭嫁.

She transformed the studio, with rich textiles filling the space. Guests were drawn into the performance as Peilin tested how participation could influence and inform the work 🧶

Sweætshops® began developing a new hybrid performance / virtual rite 🥳 PARTY 🥳 in both the virtual space with the XR Lab at University of Glasgow and the material space at Strange Field.

The work is an examination of how technology has corroded the democratic process through birthday party spectacle.

Rosana Cade undertook a residency with the Live Art Development Agency (LADA), to develop a text-based solo work exploring the idea of 'freedom of speech'; looking at the way it is being hugely weaponised by the right-wing in the UK and across the world.

We hosted an Embedded Creations residency also visited by Ásrún Magnúsdóttir and Alexander Roberts from Iceland and Norway to research their next project AlbumAlbum is a performance project in which local listeners stage seminal albums in their entirety.

Their research ranged from hosting the community bingo at Platform Easterhouse to singing Britney on karaoke at Central Belters. Immersive!

News 🗞️

News from Team TMS...

Our Producer Alex attended caravan assembly in Brighton, a showcase of contemporary theatre and performance. He saw some incredible performances and met with many other producers and delegates (so much so that he lost his voice from all the chatting).

Meanwhile, our Festival Manager Karl attended Lustholmen, MDT Moderna Dansteatern's festival in Stockholm. The festival was full of mischief, humour and resilience, and in between shows there was plenty of chatting with festival friends old and new from across Europe.

Our Artistic Director LJ took part in a panel discussion for an event held by Creative Glasgow, discussing artist basic income. It was a fantastic discussion, and we were happy to talk through the findings of our own Artist Basic Income pilot.

Graduate Residencies

Take Me Somewhere and Tramway are pleased to offer our 2026 Graduate Residencies to Bishop May Down and Emma Lewis-Jones to develop Insistence: A Butch Ballet, and to Amy Clark and Noa Ferder to develop That’s It. at Tramway Studio space. This is a collaborative programme between both organisations, providing graduating artists funded rehearsal space and mentoring sessions with the Take Me Somewhere team.

Emma Lewis-Jones and Bishop May Down are recruiting butches for a public dance workshop for anyone who identifies with butchness to come and move together - it's completely full, but there is a waiting list.
