Hello Friends,
We hope, wherever you are out there in the world – you are finding care and rest and joy!
You may know that Dan Daw Creative Projects are about to open our largest show and most ambitious project to date: EXXY.
To celebrate that and because we are the kind of people who seek joy in hanging out with our community, we would love to meet up in two of our touring locations and online for what we are calling Crip Coffee Mornings!
Crip Coffee Morning is an informal space for d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent artists to gather together, make some space for each other and meet one another – it’s a chance to talk about what you want to talk about or simply be in a shared space with fellow d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent artists.
BSL interpretation will be provided for all sessions.
To RSVP
It’s helpful for us if you RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Please RSVP at least 2 days before the event by emailing assistant@dandawcreative.com to let us know you’re attending. If you come across this invite within 2 days of the event happening – drop us an email and we will let you know if we can accommodate you as soon as we can.
Please include any access needs within your RSVP so we can try our hardest to make sure all access needs are met.
FAQS
Why are you doing this?
We set up a Crip Network in Hamburg Germany when we started working there 3 years ago and we love that they are now a self sufficient group who self organise meetings, socials and events. We, as individuals are also are part of an informal group of Crip Artists who meet for coffee with no agenda in Bristol and we find the group useful for friendship, solidarity and a fun hour away from work. Although we’re super aware that informal and formal Disabled artists networks and sessions exist in the UK – we weren’t aware of how to engage with them whilst touring our new show, so we thought that a coffee morning would be a nice, informal way to meet new people, hopefully introduce new people to each other locally. We don’t have any agenda other than it being a pleasant (hopefully!) social event.
I’m not d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent – can I still come along?
With the exception of access workers – we ask that everyone who comes along to participate identifies as being part of one of the above communities. We believe you can self identify as the above without formal ‘diagnosis.’ We believe that access workers are anyone you might want with you to support you to join the session.
We don’t want this to become an opportunity for people to learn more about these communities but rather for it to be an opportunity for those who have lived experiences of being a part of these communities to be together.
I want to seek advice about something – can I come and ask questions?
This isn’t a formal advice session, but we’re sure that you will find people who might be willing to give you some friendly advice – just please note that no one is there to be held to account after giving generous, friendly advice and we are all only experts in our own lived experiences.
I have a specific access need in order to attend – can you provide something that isn’t already listed?
Unfortunately we can’t provide travel bursaries, but we do have a small budget for access needs that are not covered by a sign language interpreter or our own in-house access support worker. Please get in contact with assistant@dandawcreative.com and we can chat through what you might need.
