FAMILY PORTRAIT is a four screen interactive video installation, combining striking imagery and choreography, capturing Barrowland Ballet’s Artistic Director Natasha Gilmore and her three children in an intimate portrayal of family life. With space to roam, the children encounter rabbit skulls, converse with spiders, make war paint with berries and discover the fun of burying their mother in bark.

With humour and candour, the work shares an honest depiction of what family really is - responsibility, joy, balance, intimacy and, most of all, love.

Filmed in the splendour of Scotland’s natural environment.

Post-show activity brings elements of nature indoors and gives time and space for you to explore and re-enact moments from the work.

Barrowland Ballet is one of Scotland’s most exciting and successful contemporary dance companies built around the artistic work of choreographer Natasha Gilmore. The company produces high quality, accessible dance theatre performances which tour nationally and internationally. The company has received critical international acclaim and has performed in festivals and venues all over the world. In 2017, Natasha Gilmore was the UK nomination for the ASSITEJ Award for Excellence for her work for young audiences. The company also has a repertoire of inter-generational, short dance films and, alongside its main repertoire of work, produces high quality participatory performance projects.
