Five women tackle the neo-liberalist cult of the body with all their performative brilliance and vicious, physical virtuosity in Florentina Holzinger’s Apollon, which limbos between the aesthetics of an occult fitness-studio, a cyborg-bullfight and neoclassical ballet.

The all-female cast passionately conquers George Balanchine's famous neoclassical ballet, which centres around Apollo, the Greek god of art. In pointe shoes and with Olympic weights on their shoulders, the choreographer and her muses throw this poster boy off his throne with smiles on their faces.

Through this humorous, furious destruction of a classical narrative, Holzinger addresses the myth of the supposedly perfect woman: the artist herself. These perfect women – what do they even want?

Apollon Musagète limbos between the aesthetics of an occult fitness-studio, a cyborg-bullfight and neoclassical ballet. Florentina Holzinger combines fin de siècle freakshow and 1960s live art, offering a new perspective on Balanchine’s choreography and the rupture between high art and entertainment culture.
